Hello,
I am on the lookout for a web design company/person with some real experience behind them and was wondering if any of you lovely people have used or can recommend anything?

We are looking to get our work website completely revamped, needs a forum, decent CMS behind it, upload features etc - nice cool slightly edgy design to attract 16-17 year olds.

we have a good pile of money to throw at the problem providing the company/individual is pretty up to spec...

iv had a good look around but to be honest its often hard to figure out the decent from the crap using Google and sometimes word of mouth is much better. links to fully active sites always an advantage (not some half done portfolio please)

any ideas??:)

What's your average? We have Thousands to throw at this. In your experience what's the best way of approaching any designer? Showing them our old stuff and telling them what we want and they say yes or no?

I was thinking about holding interviews for work to select a company given that this is a big project and one of considerable cost , is that normal?

That iso thing? Where the website examples? All I can see is some weird quirky marketing ideas...which we don't need as we have brand awareness already

I don't know if we have a list of the sites we have worked on, specifically I have worked on a site recently for NatWest, Magners and have a couple in the line for Kellogg's which will be live in the next couple of weeks.

Average depends on the full scope of the project. Although thinking about it I suspect we probably aren't a good fit for you guys to be honest, as we normally work with people on campaigns and a few projects over a longer period of time as opposed to one off bits of work. Didn't really think it through before posting!

In regards to holding interviews and what not, that's pretty normal. Putting the work out to a few different agencies for them to pitch to you how they would approach the work and cost/timing implications.

Looking at a few links on this thread and the "We Make Websites" guys looks pretty good.

These people http://www.evosite.co.uk/ totally redesigned are old rubbish website and made a fantastic job of it. They also host our new site and emails and they are just fantastic. They respond rapidly to any communications you may send them and have been brilliant from day 1.

Ever thought of having a crack at it yourself. Find a nice theme on Joomla or Wordpress. Install it. Install PHPBB3 for your forum.

One click installs from softaculous in your Cpanel. It's all pretty easy. A few days taking your time and you will have a cracking site.

I should probably add to my previous message.

I work for an NMA top 100 digital agency, we've won numerous awards and have worked with clients including Manchester United, Chelsea, Disney, EA, Adidas, NHS, JK Rowling, Sony Europe, SCEE, and many more global brands.

We have a lot of experience in particular working on projects targeting a young audience (mostly through our work with various government departments), which I can certainly provide more info on.

We're not cheap, I'll be honest, but if you have a decent budget then we can definitely deliver something which will work for you. Give me a shout if you want more info.
