Hey,

Its been a while since I have dabbled in the dark arts of website design. Unfortunately my other half needed a website to show some of her graphics skills.

Any positive and negative feedback would be appreciated. I haven't run the site through validation yet but most of it should be OK. Ignore the content as such as with the exception of the images it is not finished yet.

Cheers,

Hate to say it mate but for a website which states right on the index "THE PROOF OF ANY GOOD DESIGNER IS IN HIS OR HER WORK ", it's very very plain. If she's a graphic designer, why don't you get her to whip up the design?

I'm going to change all the content with the exception of the images. The text is from her last website from a few years back and needs completely revamping.

I do agree that the website could be more dynamic, she's not really a web person but I guess I should get her to do something a little better.

If she's a print based graphic designer, she could certainly look through some CSS galleries to see current trends and styles and then come up with something.

Not trying to be mean or anything but if the website is for a graphic designer, it should be graphical, creative and have a bit of a wow factor.

Hey,

No offense as I do agree with you, and more to the point have probably raised the very same point for other websites in the past on here. :o.

Perhaps its me being a bit lazy but this thing does need to be spruced up a bit.

I'll repost once I have another website design. :).

There's nothing massively wrong with it - it's just very generic. It's not the kind of thing which would inspire me or make me think 'this designer is really something'. Considering that the site itself is effectively a showcase of your other half's work, I think you need to think a bit more outside of the box with the site.

You need a site that someone who wasn't a graphic designer would struggle to conceive. The current one looks to me like the work of a developer and not a designer.

Hehe. Perhaps ask her to put together a design she'd like by hand? Take the internet out of the equation completely and get something together with pencil and paper or in Photoshop, Publisher, whatever she prefers. Then at least you have something to work on.

Hey,

Thought I'd pop a quick update on this.

We've decided and based on some other designers websites in Canada to create a very simple one page poster if you like instead of a half empty website. Job search in Canada is very competitive and the less work somebody has to do on your website the better.

Any further thoughts? We've got to add a little introduction and I haven't finished the navigation yet.

Its worth mentioning that the theme follows some business cards my other half had made whilst at uni.

Cheers,

Jon

I quite like the basic yet stylish look that the black with purple/light blue motif (I am colour blind =/)
