Hello gents, I'm hoping someone would be able to steer me in the right direction and offer some advice.
A friend and I are planning on creating a relatively basic website, which tracks racing progress over a race season (downhill mountain biking) as there is absolutely no where that gives you race results, stats and leaderboard rankings, rider bio's and racecourse details. Every other sport has it but the official "UCI" website is shocking.
All the details are scattered over the net and especially for someone getting into the sport, it is very frustrating filtering the rubbish on forums etc to get some info.
So we decided to give it a go ourselves.
We are needing a basic site, very similar the the following
http://www.aspworldtour.com/2008/
You will notice there is a Ratings page and when updated the riders total points get added for each round, the total changes and the standings also change.
http://www.aspworldtour.com/2008/ratings.asp?rRat=menwct&rNav=Men
We also want rider bio's like this http://www.aspworldtour.com/2008/profiles_men.asp and a multimedia section where we can embed videos/streams from other sites (will not be hosted or such like on our site, purely embedding.)
We have very little dev experience and/or HTML knowledge. I do hve a friends who is a design and wed dev genius, however I do not want to reel him in to do a whole system for us with a database and admin area for easy editing. I will just ask him to do the CSS for us.
My question to you is, will Joomla CMS allow usto run such a site?
Is there an extension or addon of some sorts that will allows us to update the points and standings easily without having to do it in excel and just manually type it in.
Joomla is the only supposedly good free CMS system that I know of, but if there are better ones out there, please share your thoughts.
Thanks
