Hey All,

I've been given the task of setting up a website for a friend who hires / sells plant machinery, they want a website they can advertise stuff for sale on in different sections and remove them once sold with the ability to easily add things with descriptions prices & images.
They would also like it so the homepage could be used to advertise a set machine for sale at the time if required or just a general pick of whats available.

I've thought of using wordpress but they are not the greatest with computers so it's a lot of work to get them to add the items and remove them once sold, so i was wondering if anyone has any other ideas how i could set this up for them, perhaps wordpress might be the best idea with the help of some plugins.

I had a play with wordpress but couldn't get it to work how i wanted, i was trying to achieve posts on separate pages, but it wasn't having any of it. I had set up different categories for each type of item and hoped these would only show on each separate page but this was a lot of hassle to do and even more of a pain to explain each time they want to add something new.

Would some kind of e-commerce system be the best bet for this ? The only downside to this is they don't want to actually sell the items on the website online currently, just after an easy way to advertise & update items.

Thanks for any help :)

Wordpress would have been my suggestion. Using custom post types and fields to make the back end very manageable. I don't see it getting better than that for them.

If you want to try an ecommerce option and use it simply as a catalogue that could work. I'd suggest open cart. I'm assuming that it can be used as just a catalogue, you'll have to investigate further.
