Can someone check in Firefox (latest if poss) how long this site takes to load:

http://www.melodic.net/

I have it set as my home page and it takes ages to load. I've changed the homepage to other sites and they load almost instantly so there must be something wrong this site.

Is there a site where I can see how long websites take to open and if there are any problems etc?

Cheers

For me the homepage stalls for a good 3-4 seconds before the content begins to load in, which takes equally as long. You can use the network / performance tool in firefox and chrome by pressing f12 and recording a page load.

Just google website speed test

So glad I had a look at this thread at work today. I run the school's website where I work and I've been meaning to sort out the website to be quicker to load.

The initial results weren't very good with both the scores in the low 30% and a total page size of 2.4MB!! :o

I initially contacted Vidahost to see if they could help me with what was the initial top two suggestions: gzip and leverage browser caching. They did so and that helped loads.

I've since optimised the banner and our accreditation logos and apart from "Remove query strings from static resources" and "Defer parsing of Javascript" all the recommendations are in A between 95 and 100 so am totally chuffed.

The scores are now A 98% and B 84% which is miles better than this afternoon. The page load time has halved I think to 4.3s and the total page size is 518KB which is a bit better than the original 2.4MB!

We use a paid for theme and apparently the developers are releasing v4 in the next few weeks (Avada) and I'm hopeful that at the very least the "Defer parsing of Javascript" will improve with that from its current E (59). :)
