I've got a rather large idea for a website at the moment which is way beyond what I could code, and I suspect it would take me some time to learn to do what I want the website to do.

Can anyone recommend a design web developer that isn't going to be stupidly expensive? Should I think about doing on a freelance type site to find the work?

I need a bit of a steer as well on what would/wouldn't be possible and the best way to do things.

Well...

Full design package really.

- DB Design
- Website and layout design

- ASP.net/PHP Coding
-- Confused.com/Moneysupermarket.com pull of data from other websites (not sure if this is the best idea, need advice on this)
-- Membership/basic social networking

Sorry I realise i'm being a bit vague, don't want to give too much away openly.

Essentially the site would be based around a unique for every person, dynamically populated calender. Which isn't too complicated, populating from a database.

The big one I have is where the data is going to come from. There's too much for myself or a couple of people to add, user submitted wouldn't really work, so I was thinking of pulling it from various sites using some sort of code in a way confused.com etc pull together quotes.

It could be done manually but ideally a process would be set up to automate collecting the data I need, but i'm not sure how complex this would be, how legal, or possible.

I'll have to look into this, i'm talking about ticket websites etc, so possibly a deal would need to be made.

I don't want to input events manually that would create too much of an overhead I think, so I was thinking of a solution outside that.

I've contacted codewise, any others to discuss with?

I'm wary of how much this might cost without an easy way of testing it upfront.

It's going to be expensive if you do it properly.

I appreciate that, I just need to get some rough ideas of what the cost is potentially going to be.

It's not particularly complicated, but i've not done any development for a long time and i'd have a lot to learn first to do it myself.

I don't think having it appeal is an issue, marketing it etc.

I've got an idea for a site that genuinely hasn't been done, or has been done awfully. If I wanted all of it developing it would be very very expensive.

In terms of brokering deals that isn't required there are existing data feeds, which makes things a lot more straight forward.

In terms of what the site actually does, it's not really complex development in my mind (not that I know how to do it properly!)
