I was just wondering, can you go into websites directory structures and find out if there are any extra domains being hosted by the same company?

So for instance, just from knowing a websites name, can you navigate through it's directory structure and have a nose around?

No its very unlikely.

they could potentially allow directory browsing but its unlikely and even this would only allow you access to the directorys for that one site not the full structure unless somebody was extremely slack in setting up the website.

id say your chances are between very slim and none.

Depends on how the host is setup but seems unlikely

you can however find out websites hosted on the same server & all subdomains from a TLD pretty easily.

but on a shared host there will probably be loads of sites on the same server, if a company owned a dedicated server and hosted numerous websites on it you could in theory find out the sites they are hosting

Can't remember the site but someone compiled a complete dns database the other month. He worked his way through every dns server he could find calling backups. While top tier servers would only do that for other servers isn't remarkable just how many lower ones are not properly configured, and just spit out the info.

Point is, no matter how good the theory, it usually comes down to human error. The more basic the approach the more likely it's been overlooked e.g. a simple cmd ping to get the ip of a site through a network filter.

It might be possible if someone is using add-domain to a main domain, and one panel because they all exist in the same space, just in a folder.

Once this happened to me on a personal gallery2 installation, because of the crappy MOD-Rewrite module in it - throwing a wobbler and revealing directory structures accidentally. It cause a bit of havoc on my personal space.

If a commercial website is hosted this way it might be time to change provider.

So to answer your question. It's pretty remote that it will happen - but if someone is using add-on domains then it's possible.
