My mate has this business http://www.johnwhitingltd.com/ and he would like the website to look more modern and at the same time add a few small changes.

Now i know the basics, but i would like some ideas as to what you would think needs changing ?

The page is split (top.htm, main.htm and left.htm) so i would guess its not a too difficult job. Im just rubbish at the graphics side of things.

P.s. i would pay someone to help me do this if needed as he has been asking me everytime i see him (yes im lazy).

Any help/ideas would be great. :)

Ouch!

First of all - its split into frames and tables which is old stuff (90s), nowadays people use xHTML & CSS which is a lot better for many reasons, which you probably don't care about so I'm not going to get into it - you just need to know that its pretty much the standard these days. Dear god it was made in 2002 aswell....

All the images you have at the moment are dodgy, as in it doesn't look very nice, no smooth edges etc, so I would change all of those. Also the header is all screwed up.

Get rid of the bravenet counter, replace it with a PHP one, or even google analysis...(or whatever its called)

....thats just a start aswell :p.

Add me on msn (see trust) - I'd be more than happy to help if you looking to do/learn this yourself.

To be honest it looks like you will need to start from scratch, that aint so bad though, the content is there so it's only a new design that you need. :)

Thanks for the replies.

Jonny, when you say i only need to make a new design, do you mean basically the navigation and the top bar (header) ?

The way I'd do it...

Create a top banner, 800x150 - something like that. Using HTML and CSS, create a page with a header (for your banner), and then two columns, left column for the menu, right for the content. Add the buttons using a bullet list, then style using CSS (Plenty of free creators on the web will do this part for you). Then add in the content - for now I would just put the page content in as it is, then restyle if needed.

So basically, new header and menu.

Can be as simple of using a good pic as a header with some text on there.

Menu:

For some inspiration, check out the competition sites. Have a play and put some examples back on here.

I think I can quite safely say, he means redo the WHOLE design.

My opinion anyways...

I did mean the whole design, though that's not as bad as it sounds, once you have one page done then you have the content and it only needs fitting into the same design. I was just meaning it's not as bad as doing the design AND the conent :)
