Website Speed Test

Hi,

I am currently fighting with my host about the speed of our web site. On their hosting it runs like crap, but on another web server it flys.

Now they are saying the test server it is just as slow and it is a website issue, which it clearly isn't. In fact they are claiming the performance is worse, despite the fact you can watch it and it isn't.

So i was wondering if there is a well recognised web site or tool you can use to test the performance of a web site on a host that i can throw back at them.

You should be able to use various in browser tools to determine the information you need to know.

If you run a site on a crap server and it requires any sort of heavy processing, it will be slow. That same sight will fly on a good server though.

Have a look in the network tab of chrome developer tools to see what resources are being loaded, how large the page footprint is and if there are any bottle necks.

you've got your firefox add ins like pagespeed etc or if you want to rule out network routes (ie you to servers a and b) you could try these:

http://www.websiteoptimization.com/

If you are using google chrome this is very simple.
Go to the settings icon and then to Tools, then to developer tools. Navigate to Network and refresh your page.

It will display all the page elements and how long it takes them to load in the timeline. Easy.

What's wrong with QIQ? I use them for my website, currently and havent noticed any speed issues.

Though, bear in mind that mine is a simple website.

I'm migrating to TSOHost and can't say have noticed any speed increase/decrease.

I know a couple of sites with them which are slow at times, probably just the server they're loaded onto being hammered by other users during peak times. Though to be fair, it seems a lot better now then it has been.

Fortunately at work we use dedicated servers, maybe I'm spoilt

There is an app called Fiddler that will monitor the web traffic and how long it takes for page load times etc
