Hi All

I've been asked to take photos at an event at the weekend (nothing like late notice!) where they would like me to provide the photos online for people to buy if I accept the job. I currently don't have a website that I could use to sell photos and don't really have the time to set one up, however I would like to take this job.

So my question to you is; do you know of any website where I could sell these photos from? I want to create a profile, upload some photos into galleries, apply watermarks to them, price them up and have all the payment side just taken care of for me. Any photos that are sold need to simply be emailed.

www.photofolio.co.uk looks to offer this functionality. Has anyone use these guys before? Also just to be clear, I'm not interested in sites like shutterstock that require all photos uploaded to be vetted.

Thanks in advance :)

I had the same issue last week, got asked to cover an event Thursday for a Sunday shoot and couldn't find anything I liked off the shelf that was quick to make. In the end I went with building a Magento site from scratch as I've used it before and knew it could handle digital download sales (photos) but it's probably over the top for what's required and complicated to use if you haven't before.

Thanks for the replies. I had completely forgotten about Magento! We use it at work to sell some merchandise. I'll have a quick look into it.

Steeps, how long did it take you to create that site from scratch? Also which package did you go for?

I've only ever tried community edition (freebie) as it's what we used at work, luckily my host has one click install so it's stable out of the box. It's then a case of going through all the admin options to set it up for a UK store, remove some modules, editing templates to remove unwanted store elements and make images larger and then finally changing the theme of the site. It's a lot of work and requires a lot of individual files to be changed, but it does have options for digital downloads and supports paypal just by linking the accounts with an API.

I used to strip down Magento sites so I had one up in a couple of evenings, now I need to streamline the process of uploading the photos as I can't remember the php we used for that before.

I've just contacted them as I'm unsure if you can configure the site to automatically email the photos that have been purchased. The price of their packages and commission seem very reasonable

Ah, I didn't catch that you wanted the photo file itself sold? I know that site does the printing side of thing since they're a printing company but never looked into whether they can buy the pic too.
