Websites only loading after second refresh

Hi

We've got a strange problem with out Internet where pages only seem to load after you press refresh in the browser when viewing for the first time. Our setup is a Netgear DG834 which is setup to DHCP for the network. I've tried pinging domain names from command prompt and they seem to be resolving first time, but when using the web (via firefox) it seems we have to hit refresh and then the page loads. The router is running the latest firmware and all DNS settings are automatic from our ISP. Has anyone come across this problem before?

Thanks a lot for your help

It's happening across the network. Just tested in IE7 and everything seems fine, but this could be because the DNS is now cached. I tried some sites I haven't visited in a while in IE and it seems ok. Could this be a problem with Firefox? We're using 2.0.0.3

hi, i am having exactly the same problem only I have to hit refresh about ten times! On sites that I have visited a lot they seem to load up ok. I am on a mac and this is what i have experienced in both safari and firefox. My router is a DG834N. I really hope I can get this sorted out as it is well annoying!

Who is your ISP? Perhaps they are running a transparent proxy which is malfunctioning?

ISP is onetel who I have heard a lot of people complain about but to date I have never had any problems with them.

I am convinced it must be something with my router setup but all my settings appear to be correct.

Have you cleared the firefox cache? What proxy settings do you have in IE and firefox? If you manually use a fixed proxy from your isp does the problem go away?

hi, im using safari at the moment so haven't tried firefox in a wee while and also dont use IE as I'm on a mac. I'm not sure at all about what you mean about proxy settings! Is that something I set in the router?

If you were going to set it, it would be set in the browser.

Is the Mac using the router as DNS server, and if it is, does setting it to directly use the ISP's DNS servers help?

I had set the router to automatically discover the dns servers but i came across the proper onetel dns addresses last night so I will report back on that. I didn't use anything like that in my old router though.

You don't need to change anything in the router, change it on the machines themselves (though you might be able to do it through the router's DHCP options).

I'm with Clara net. That's strange actually, as I've had a proxy error message appear a couple of time when accessing one of our sites hosted on their server. I know that is hosting and this is dsl, but could they be related?
Thanks
