Hi, My webstar cable modem has always been connected to my PC using the USB port. Before I can setup my Netgear Router I need to connect my cable modem to the LAN port on my PC. I am having difficulty doing so. the lan port is activated and has drivers installed. I don't know if this is normal or not but when connected to a LAN cable, even when the PC is powered down the PC light on the cable modem flashes constantly. I have configured the lan port to use the same IP and subnet mask etc as when I am connected to the web using the USB cable but it still won't connect to the internet (I have also tried setting it to automatically locate the IP adresses etc).

Any one got any ideas? I know a fair bit about PCs but I've never known a lot about networks. I can build a PC... install devices etc but this has gotten the better of me... I know nothing about networking.

Yep power cycle the modem, connecting it straight into your ethernet port should pick up IP address etc on its own, if it doesn't then there could be either a problem with you ethernet or the cat cable is damaged.

Yeah, :) I know about powering the hardware up etc :) turns out that the onboard LAN on my main PC is broken. I borrowed my Twin's and configured the router through that and the network is now up and running :)
