I'm assuming the WEC will be a fully open track? I.e. no restrictions on getting to certain grandstand like at the F1?
I'll grab a map and talk you through it. BRB...
OK...
There are footpaths around the entire track, and they cross over from the inside to the outside. I will go round in track order from the start line...
From turn 19 round turn 1 and up through Eau Rouge is all grandstands. Theres a footpath around the back of them all on the outside of the track.
There are crossings under the track that go under the turn 19 chicane and also under the bottom of Eau Rouge at turn 2. this is how you get inside the track at this point and into the pits and paddock area. There is a road and a footpath that go from the paddock to the inside of turns 10 and 11 through the woods.
If you go back to the outside of the track at Eau Rouge, you then walk up a (steep) hill behind the grandstands up to the top at turn 4. This path then carries all the way along the Kemmel straight up to turn 5. You actually exit the track at turn 5 and then walk around and back in at turn 7.
At turn 7 the patch goes under the track to the circuit inside. This is the highest point of the track, theres a great view all the way from here down to the pits.
After going under the track you can head up to turn 8 and sit right on the inside of the corner really close to the cars. This is a great spot for photos.
Heading back to turn 9 the path then drops steeply down to turn 10 and 11, on the inside now, with good viewing banks. The path then follows the track around to the outside of turn 13 before you loose access due to some buildings.
You drop down from here onto the road I previously mentioned heads back to the paddock. Walking up this a bit the footpath goes off left and under the track just before turn 16. It then follows the track, but a bit higher up all the way to the chicane. This is the fastest part of the track, and while its a view through some trees, the speeds are mental. Once you get back to the chicane the trees clear and you have a clear view down to the chicane. There is a steep bank that gets full of fans at the F1 but at the WEC I imagine you will have the pick of the spots.
Then its back to the start straight and back to where I started.
So your key crossing points are under the final chicane, under Eau Rouge, under turn 7 at the top of the hill, and under turn 16. There is also an exit out under turn 15, but unless your parked out that way you won't use that. You can walk around almost the whole track quite easily as the paths are easy to follow.
Good spots are Turn 1, Eau Rouge (obviously), Turn 8 for great photos, and turns 18 and 19 for some overtaking. However, with 6 hours of racing you should easily be able to walk the whole track.
Grandstands go from turns 18 around turn 1 and up Eau Rouge, and thats it. Everywhere else is grass/gravel banks. If you don't fancy lugging a fold up chair up some of the significant hills, take something small and light to sit on and just carry that with you.
Anything else you want to know, just ask.
