Hi guys,
It's our ten year anniversary in a few months time and I've been thinking about what I could do that would surprise my better half. Its occurred to me that we never actually got around to getting prints of our wedding day into a 'wedding album' all we have for memories of our day is a 'dvd'. I also have the dvd of every picture that was taken in Raw format because my cousin is a photographer and this was his wedding present to us.
Could someone advise me on what I need to do to get these images into a nice album/book. Even better are there such companies that will do it all for me? I would really like the WOW factor because she's worth it!
Thanks

I recently used Loxley to do an album of our two kids (from pregnancy scans through to current) from them for my Mrs' 40th birthday

The images are printed onto the pages rather than a traditional photos mounted in the album but the quality is excellent

You download the software from their site, do the design / layout yourself and then upload once done, pay and it turns up a week or so later

Link below should you want to check them out :)

If you want to save a lot of time and effort speak to a local wedding tog and see if they will do one for you, I would also involve the wife in choosing the pics otherwise despite your best efforts your thought full present will be marred by comments like oh I don't like that shot or where is that shot of so and so I love!

Wedding tog will charge a lot more!

It is so easy to make your own book online. Even with a wedding tog you will have to choose which pics to incorporate into the book! I have made several books over the years and they have all turned out superb!

Don't use Photobox, they are ****. Loxley is a good call of you want something proper.

Photobox is great if you want something fast, quick and cheap but they don't even stand up to other lower end books in my experience. Loxley should be another league above them. I'm doing something similar soon and asked on another forum and Loxley came out top, along with another brand from Italy I can't remember at the moment.

Thanks gents, I want it to look the part, but obviously don't want to pay silly money. I'll give Loxley a look. Does anyone have any experience in which books are 'best'?

What's your comparison? I've compared several books I've made from different companies and Photobox is bottom of the list by a long shot.

EDIT: Having said that there are a number of more premium options they didn't have before. I have no idea what they are like.

I didn't say they wouldn't charge but what you will get in my experience if you choose wisely is a better result layout and 'pacing' for these things take a lot of time to learn. I know I learn't an awful lot from looking at what our photographers delivered and it has massively improved my own photobooks as a result.

Well, Photobox has produced stunning books for me everytime!

Photobox are bottomw of my list for all sorts of prints to many disapointments from them! If you want a more budget friendly option consider CEWE their prices are good and the premium photo paper option is nice, I also like the software tool and the no quibbles satisfaction guarentee is excellent.

For something like this though I would always go premium and I will re-iterate you should involve your wife in choosing the pictures and remember less is more!

Loxley Fine Art are the best, followed by the Perfetto. Brilliant quality and a 2 week turnaround.

*Edit : I mean the best that Loxley offer, not the best albums ever! ;)

I've had some photobox photobooks done before, paper and book quality are fine, as are the protective cases however, on images that have black bars top and bottom you could see track lines where they've obviously gone over the printer.

Complained and got a free second one, same issue but not as bad. little damp cloth over them cleared most of them up. Still not great when spending £100 on one.

4 ways you could do it:

1) Surprise her with a photobook that you've done in secret and let her look through.
2) Organise a little meal and some wine at home, get the photos out and tell her you are going to do it together (make sure you know which software to use etc) as it'll involve her and she'll enjoy the quality time going through them all.
3) Forget a book. As part of the weddings I photograph I like to create a slideshow of the day to the first dance song. Usually ends with the first dance photos. Never fails to make them cry ;)
4) Do 3 as a surprise and then also throw 2 in as well so you can spend time together doing a hard copy.
