Wedding Photographers - What lens combination are you using ?

I've been doing Weddings myself now for about 3 years and have been using 24-70mm 2.8 mainly but I'm thinking of moving away from this lens for the 2019 season as I feel its making me lazy in my shooting! I generally just like to capture the day as it unfolds so works really well with my style..... but I am now going to try 50mm 1.2 as main lens for the day and then mix in 24mm & 70mm for the other needed shots.

What sort of Combination are you other professionals using ?

Still just doing friend's weddings but my 35mm/18-35mm have got me through most of my mine on a crop sensor just fine. I am actually renting the 24-70mm this weekend

. I see a lot of people on YouTube with a 35/85mm combination.

I've seen people use the 24-70 2.8 and 70-200 2.8 canon

I think Raymond only uses primes.

35/85 primes. I don’t even use my 24-70/2.8 anymore and don’t own a 70-200.

A 16-35, 20/1.4, 24/1.4, 50/1.4, 100/2.8 IS and a 135/2.0 is within reaching distance.

Last couple I did using 35/85 f1.4 on full frame. Church/country house I usually keep a 10-20 on crop close to hand. If limited for space/moving around I do have 24-70 and 70-200 f2.8 available.

35/85.

Rented a 70-200 once just in case and I just didn't like the aesthetic it gave so it stayed in the bag after taking a couple shots.

16-35 and 24-105 in close reach if I need something more versatile. Also have a 50 there but never use it.

I like to force the perspective a little and wither go wide or long, don;t liek the middle ground at all as it tends top be very dull. The wide end fo a 24-70 and the mid-range of a 70-200mm work extremely well with a lot of flexibility for composition. Tamron 15-30 comes out for grouop shots. I have several primes in the bag in case although i rarely shoot them wide open because the shots can be flat and lifeless without suitable DoF, I really like the 3D look of a longer focal length and moderate aperture so the background is very creamy and the subject stands out, or contrasting that with wide and close adds a lot of drama.

I have definitely gone OTT for my next wedding. Spanked a good £350

but these are upgrades that should last and beyond my D5200.

Edit - well I think I have fallen for the lens I just hired. Nikon 85mm f1.4, absolutely lush though I did have some difficulty focusing on the things I wanted but assume this was mainly down to my technique/skill. Tempted to give the 50mm f1.2/1.4 a go as I am on a cropped sensor.
