Wee Project Build

I like how the case is cheap, this leaves more money for other things :D
So... ~£750 for CPU+cooling, mobo, RAM, graphics card, DVD drive, for 600W..
i7 930@£230
UD3R@£153
Corsair 6GB RAM@£140
Graphics card is tricky, the logical choice is the 5770 but that's no good for folding. Closest is the GTX260 but they're all out of stock.
Let's go with 2xGTS 250@£89 each, although it's running a little close to the wind, you might be happier with a bigger PSU ;)
And.. a CoolIt Eco ALC CPU cooler @ £56

Also, that OCZ phase cooler looks awesome  although I'm not a fan of their 30-day warranty.

I did consider the i7, but due to thermal envelope I decided against.

I am expecting a few negative opinions when I show the build - we will see.

Pppffffffffff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've only gone and missed the delivery........

Had to pay an extra £12 to get it delivered tomorrow now.

Looks alright, I especially like the addition of two GTS 250s ;)

Why did you go for i5 in the end? Surely the lower-end socket 1156 i7s offer nearly double the performance (as they have hyperthreading) for an extra third in cost, yet maintain the same TDP.

Is this actually a 24/7 folding rig with the occasional child-usage, or more the other way round? :D

Edit: noticed the CPU is the 650, not the 750 :o
But that makes it an even more curious choice. Why get a CPU that has integrated graphics when you're also buying two discrete graphics cards?
Not to mention it's only a dual-core with hyperthreading, so worse performance than the quad without. Its one redeeming factor is a further 22W off TDP, but in this form factor the important TDP drop is surely from 130-95, rather than beyond.
So I'm increasingly suspicious of your components ;)
