For a while I've wanted a weekend car to rag around.

I have £2,500 to spend.

Quite allot for an old, quick car, I have found two MINT examples of

Pug 205 Mi16
Or,
Phase 1 Clio Williams

Both I have seen proof of being totally restored as both prone to rust/ragged to death.
The Pug is on 80k miles, whereas the Clio is 70k.

I think in a straight line the Clio would be quicker, but round the bends the Pug would no doubt be in front.

Has anyone had experiences with either car?
I have owned a Sorrento Ltd Ed 205 1.9 GTI that I enjoyed, was a very fun car, which is why I want to try something new, the Mi16 engine kicks out around 170bhp, and Clio is round about that too.

Both unreliable really, both French :p

What would you go for?

Please stay on topic, the Motor section always sways towards Mondeo’s and the like, please opinions on the two cars above J

The 205 is the quicker car... straight line or corners (IMO), not by that much mind.

Its 160bhp for the alloy 1.9 mi16, and 150bhp for a standard williams 2.0

It is however a conversion.

Both would be good choices IMO

You considered something japanese and turbo?

Never really fancied Turbo's, i have a Polo G40 hence not going down the supercharged route.

And this is going to be a car to rag down the bendys etc, I don't have time for lag ;)

Seems you're swaying for the 205, I want it to be the Williams that I get, but obviously going to go on opinions.

Don't you remember the 1992 F1 GP World Championship??

I'd have said other way round tbh, pug will be quicker straight line (those engines can also be tuned pretty heavily) and clio better round corners I guess with standard suspension setup.

Apart from the extra power I'm not sure if the mi16 lump effected the handling at all, I know mi16 powered 205s are rapid though. I've always wanted an mi16 309 myself :)

Well, contradicting myself, but I'm going for a Turbo afterall, Pulsar, found a nice one.

Pickup Saturday!

Can't wait!
