** Weekend Football Thread **

I wouldnt count any chickens yet, If United have the league tied up after the Arsenal game its the kids against Hull and every chance that Hull could win it.
People still actually think this is possible, don't they? The Hull City of six months ago is gone. Dead and buried. There's no confidence left, a manager blind to his own faults, morale at an all time low, and players whose limitations are being cruelly exposed, again and again. They're a bunch of Championship players who've been found out. They're West Brom, but without the ability on the ball, or the confidence to play.

Just got back from the pub. Couldn't believe it when the first goal went in but I knew we had a game on our hands when Taylor scored.

I wasn't that impressed by the performance but by god am I happy about the result!

Woot!!! We won a game!!!!! Wish I could remember how I'm meant to celebrate??

Not a great game, easy to see why both us and the smoggies are at the bottom end of the table. Just glad we won, but nowhere near safe yet. We really need a result against Fulham and they've been pretty good at times this season. I really don't want it going to the last game of the season. My missus and her entire family are from Streford and life long Manu supporters. Wouldn't work with her celebrating winning the league and me trying to kill her if we get relegated.

Amazing.

What a substitution, rubbish Martins on for the not interested at all Owen.

So happy that we are closer to staying up but my god there is a lot of mess to sort out in the summer

Watched it at St James'. what a brilliant game to watch live.

ooobaa. oba fem. ooobaa. oba fem. ooobaa. oba fem. OBAFEMI MARTINS!

best substitution ever. owen is genuinely terrible, he actually cant run.

I do feel slightly sorry for him, he's a not an arrogant chav putz akin to most other footballers appear to be these days. I remember him e.g. those two late goals in the FA Cup final in 2001 he was really good.

Theres every chance, if nothing rests on the Hull match, then not ONE first team player will play, chances are none of his second string will play either.

I would love Newcastle to go down anyway, maybe Hull havent been so great in the last few months, but the first 3 months of the season or so show that they really can hold their own given the chance

IE Newcastle have had their chance, and (hopefully) blown it - give another side a chance to see what they can do with a few seasons in the Premiership (glad to see Boro probably go down too)

What a result, was up for the game last night more than i'd ever been this season, the whole bar was jumping, great atmosphere. Shame i was working it but still had a few cheeky pints to celebrate. :D

Well done Shearer for taking off Owen, hopefully that's the last game he plays for us...to make a point i'd just tear up his contract now and let him walk away, he's got nothing to his game even when he is fit.

What's the betting he goes somewhere else and starts playing magic football again.

It happens to us all the time - we buy players who were good but have gone a bit crap, they get steadily worse while they are at Newcastle and then as soon as they bugger off to another club they start playing good football again!

<sigh>

Yup, and you'd still probably tonk City off the park. If anything, your third stringers would probably try harder, and still show more ability.

Happily take that chance. Think he'll be another Kieron Dyer when he leaves, once an injury prone player, forever an injury prone player, thing is at least Dyer can still run when fit, Owen hasn't been able to do that for over a year now.

I hope its the last game for Newcastle for Owen.

I'll be so happy to see him leave tbh, get rid of that wage and him. No doubt wherever he goes he will probably come back to st james and score a hat trick but I don't care.

Shearer just needs to get him back to form, he scored about 10 in the first half of the season and practically none since then.

There's no way he's any slower now than from August-January when he was actually scoring.

Good result for the Toon :) Still reckon they need at least a point from the next two games to be certain though, almost there though!
