Saw this on iPlayer at the weekend, must say I am disappoint.
Don't get me wrong, I liked it and will be watching the rest of the series but I just felt the re-brand and tweaked format were both unnecessary and didn't bring anything to the show.
It was Newswipe with a review of Django Unchained with the bloke from pointless and that lesbian Scottish comedian shoved in the middle of it for no apparent reason. Also didn't the CGI studio he was sat in.
The rest of it was brilliant, but that's because it was classic X-wipe material and format.
Brooker's strength, in my opinion, are his monologues to camera and he's always struggled when he's tried to interact with other comedians/guests. Whilst he's a brilliant writer and can prepare hilarious dialogue and metaphors in advance, I don't think he's quick witted enough to do it on the fly. It was the same on 10 O'Clock Live, he's monologue piece was brilliant but he just looked out of his depth when in discussions with likes of Jimmy Carr and David Mitchell which called for off the cuff gags.
