Hi guys, not really sure which section to put this in so i stuck it in here.

Weird one this. I suspect this is something to do with my new graphics card and/or psu. I flashed to the latest mobo bios two days ago to rule out any possible conflicts when i installed my EVGA GTX 780 FTW. Re-ran WEI as it needed refreshing and it crashes the pc as soon as it starts the Direct3D 9 ALU assessment. I just can't get it to run that test without a crash followed by a restart. No error codes or anything. Games run fine and i looped Heaven for a couple of hours with no problems. How can the crappy WEI crash the pc? Could this be a conflict of some sort between my new card and 5 year old psu? When running Heaven i had GPU-z monitoring in the background and it would appear that there are voltage drops every 20-25 seconds, just for a split second but you can see a judder on the screen at the same time. Could this be something to do with this problem.

Spec in siggy, 3 month old install of W7 64bit Home Premium, all drivers are up to date, Nvidia driver 326.80. It's definately not temperature related. Any input would be much appreciated as this is doing my head in. I know it's only WEI but something so crappy is crashing my pc and i want to know why.

Go to C:\Windows\Performance\WinSat\DataStore and delete all the .xml files that are in there.

Then try running WEI again.

Just tried that and it still crashed on the same test.

A multi meter would be handy, don`t suppose you have one.

Which Psu do you have?

I do actually. Where do i stick the probes? Psu is a Zalman ZM750-HP as in siggy, (FSP build) got excellent reviews when it came out but is getting on a bit now.

Does it crash in games? If just in wei its something borked in windows or gpu drivers imo

Looked in event viewer to see what caused the crash?

It's fine in games. Just WEI. I know it's largely irrelevant but it's bugging me and it's never done this before. There is the split second voltage drops when running Heaven. I will post a screenie tomorrow. Got to go now. If you tell me how to test with the multimeter i will do it first thing tomorrow and post my results.

Cheers for that. Just followed that guide and voltages are as follows.

24pin
+12v 12.15v idle 12.16v load
+5v 5.15v idle 5.15v load
+3.3v 3.54v idle 3.54v load (out of spec)

8pin
12.15v idle and load

PCI-e 6 pin and 8 pin
12.15v idle and load

The 12v lines are solid and well within spec. The 3.3v ones are quite a bit over spec but surely that would'nt be the cause of the crashes.

Running Heaven looped with gpu-z monitoring at the same time keeps showing dips in voltage, wattage and ampage plus is giving me a VREL performance restriction which says it's caused by voltage reliability. Here's a screenie showing the dips:-

Clicking on the minimums shows the following:-

VDDC -125.000v
12v -0.50v
VDDC current -1824.00 A
VDDC power -92.5w

I can hear the card stuttering when these dips occur as the PSU whines. Despite what my multimeter testing shows i think i am going to need a new psu to try to cure this problem. It was fine with my old GTX670 but this new card sucks more power so perhaps at 5 years old it's now past it's best.

Well it was definately the psu. Got the Seasonic in and all is well again. Checked the receipt for the Zalman and it was 6 years old so maybe the 780 just prooved too much for it. Six years was a good run for it though.
