weight of alloys ???

i have been reading other car forums and people wanting light alloys i dont really see why? they are resting on the floor any way so whats diffrence goning it make? it may be a silly question but just got me thinking.
may some one enlightn me

Well the engine has to turn the alloys, lighter ones are easier to turn. Also the overall weight of the car.

Same idea applies to lightened fly wheels etc...

Reducing "unsprung" mass (wheels, tyres, brakes and half the suspension system) helps the suspension work better by reducing enertia and therefore reaction time. Lighter is better so long as the damping is set to match.

Oh yes, and lighter wheels makes it easier to turn the car as the change in angular momentum is reduced. Same affect as a push bike being more stable when moving than when stationary.
