Guys I'm 6'3 and around 14st 11lbs. Not catastrophic but I'm going on a family holiday over Christmas and want to tone up a bit. Literally just arranged It.

My plan is:

Run 30 mins every night
Do 50 press ups thereafter
Eat no more than 1500 cals a day
If I do that, will I see much improvement? A slightly ambiguous question but thoughts welcomed

Thanks

You'll be tight to see improvement on that before xmas but dropping to 14st or just over is dooable.

Running alone won't give you the benefit you're after unless you interval train in those 30 mins or HIT. You need to keep the heart rate up, then rest, then back up again.

1500Cals is a bit low, you'd be fine with 1800 daily really.

Get over to the sports forum for all the muscle hunks to think of "DEM GAINZ" and how you should eat raw chicken for the next eleventyfour years in order to be fit and healthy :)

Sports arena is where you need to be. Absolutely loads of good advice in there. You can get a lot done in a month, but you'll need much longer to see any major changes. Diet is absolutely key if weight loss is your primary goal.

Too little. Go log on to MyFitnessPal as that will tell you what you need calorie wise.

Too close to Christmas to see any big losses, and remember that exercise needs to be part of your routine. The motivation tails off and unless you stick at it and make it a habbit you'll be back on the crisps and slacking in front of TV.

Trust me, I often don't want to go running when it is cold and wet but I force myself. Not for weight loss in my case but for training for a 10K and then half marathon.

Google some bodyweight circuits if you don't have access to a gym and do them daily, clean your diet up and aim for around 1800kcals.
You'll make a noticeable difference in 4 weeks if you've never trained before.

Starving your body then going all out spartan is idiotic. Eat right exercise well as a long term plan not run every night when you don't normally on a reduced intake.

You class 30 minutes of exercise as all out spartan? and 1500 calories as starving yourself. A 30min single run is likely to be 3 miles or just over for a beginner and the difference between 1500 cal and 1800 is a Boost bar and a can of coke.

Not much use in this thread I see...:p

If you ant to lose weight then yeah, that should work ok if you've got a decent diet plan behind it. But if you want to tone, get some muscle on you then you'll have to work for it.

30 mins of exercise a day doesn't seem like you are too keen to get fit. it takes at least 15mins for the body to start to feel the effects and then you are only going to carry on for another 15mins.

maybe do mixed sports like running one night (an hour) and then football another night then swimming another night etc. using different parts of your body in different ways is a great way to mix it up and have more effect on your body.
maybe do a half hour run in the mornings and then do a proper bit of something in the evenings.
don't impact your diet too much, just cut the dead weight out and eat what your body needs, cut the drinking out too (sugar in tea, fizzy and alcohol) which can be hard to do in december.

get off the computer!! sitting down is the worst thing we do to our bodies, get moving and find something, anything to do that means you are on your feet, even if that is rearranging the garage shelves etc. just don't be sat still.

good luck!

Perhaps I'll I crease to 45 mins. I'm actually quite muscular but have let it go flabby in places over the years. I used to be quite toned and trained hard in my early twenties. Having hit 30 And having not carried it on, I now have a muscular frame that has become, as I said, flabby.

What I need to do is loose the excess fat as underneath is quite a bit of muscle. Hence the low calorie and what I thought decent amount of runnig idea

One presumes the OP will be doing warm ups and the actual running would be for the full 30 minutes. As a regular 5KM runner I can say that 30 minutes of running (around 45 with warm up & cool down) is plenty to begin with. We don't know how fit the OP is and running for one hour solid from nothing is some achievement.

I agree on mixing it up though. Gets different muscle groups working and helps stave off monotony.
