Hi

just got a 3D TV and experienced a bit of weirdness. I have my Sky HD via HDMI to Sony STR-2400ES receiver then to the 3DTV. Same with 3d Bluray player via HDMI to Sony then same hdmi output to 3DTV.

According to what I have read the Sony STR-2400ES is not 3D compatible and does not pass it through. So I thought I would try it anyway.

I tried Sky 3D, it worked fine. Channel 170 I watched David Attenborough in 3D. So I then played a 3D Trailer I downloaded via the 3d Bluray player. This also played fine in 3D. So I then tried Dredd 3D bluray. The 3D didnt work. It was like the image was not showing correctly overlapping/zoomed in. If I then plug the hdmi cable from the 3d bluray player directly into the 3D TV bypassing the Sony then Dredd 3D played fine in 3D.

I dont get it. How can I play a 3D trailer from 3d bluray to Sony to 3D TV okay yet I cant do the same for a 3D bluray disc ?

I already have a kind of work around I have a HDMI splitter which is 3D hdmi 1.4a compatible so I can output the sounds via hdmi to the sony and the picture to the tv.

Just a bit strange how one way it plays and the other it doesnt.

Not all 3D is the same.

3D from Sky is the equivalent of two lots of 1080i. This is the same as one lot of 1080p - the same as a regular Blu-ray, and you already know your amp can cope with Blu-ray, so the Sky 3D signal takes up the same bandwith as normal Blu-ray. The download will be a similar situation.

3D from Blu-ray is two lots of 1080p, so it's double the bandwidth of Blu-ray. That's too much bandwidth for the amp to cope.
