Something is wrong, but i'm not sure what.
If I open file explorer, my drives are listed on the left, as normal.
If I then right click on any of the drives, instead of opening the option box
(ie properties and the other stuff) the screen goes black for a split second then back to desktop.
This happens for any drive, internal or external, and USB memory sticks.

Hopefully something simple

TIA
Mick

Which Windows version? When did it start happening? If you open 2 file explorers and right click in one do they both close? It sounds like explorer is crashing which is usually down to a faulty shell extension.

Sounds like an installed app that has a system wide context menu option has corrupted that side of things and crashes file explorer when you right click under in certain conditions.

command prompt as admin then chkdsk /f and/or sfc/scannow to check for faults with Windows files anyway and see if it finds and repairs errors. If they don't find anything then you culd also do a check with DISM.

Sorry , it's win 10 pro build 22h2
sfc scannow said it found and fixed errors -- still the same
chkdsk /f wouldn't run -- "the volume is in use by another process"

chkdsk won't run whilst Windows is running, it runs at next reboot, it will give you a prompt and you then enter Y or N to accept the prompt then you simply reboot.

Keep in mind that all this could also be system component incompatibility as Ryzen builds are rather picky with what they pair up with.

Thanks for all the suggestion guys
It's now Sorted..
2 months ago I installed a new 2gb m2 nvme to replace my 1GB C drive.
I used acronis true image to clone the old drive.
It would appear acronis has been auto starting on every boot and trying to clone the C drive !!!!!
Deleted acronis .. problem gone;)
