Weird blank screen issue

hi,

I have had this intermitant issue for some time now (couple of years)...problem is it's impossible to pin down and there seems to be no way I can 'make it happen' or be sure to 'fix it'.

I think the only components left from initially having issues are the PSU and motherboard but I'll be honest, I'm not 100% sure on that...certainly I've changed CPU & GFX card.

So what happens is sometimes I switch on and altho the machine is booting I get no video. I thought I had fixed the issue recently by uninstalling and re-installing the GFX card drivers (I found that I was running beta drivers so thought that might be the issue) but then it started playing up again.

So this current issue here's what happened;

Machine was reported as not working by my son...having tried a few leads and generally 'messing around' it started working again. I was having some issues getting Elite running so I had to reboot and I got the blank screen. Next day I decided to see if it was working and to my surprise all was fine, I decided to leave the machine on as I planned to pay that evening. Everything was all fine, I shut the machine down - no issues whatsoever.

Next time I switched the machine on I got the blank screen again - and that's where I'm at. The machine is booting (I can tell by the sounds and time it takes to 'shut down' after pressing the power button).

I THINK it may be something to do with the onboard video (ASRock B75M mobo) conflicting with the GFX card (GTX560ti) but I'm not 100% sure. I don't mind spending money on a new mobo but it's quite a hassle what with all the stripping out and then re-installing windows and everything else etc...and then if the issue re-appeared I'd be gutted, so I just want to see if there's something obvious I'm missing?

Thanks in advance for any input :)

By way of an update this now is working...however I left the GFX card unplugged overnight and reset the BIOS so that might have been it or a coincidence, I will see how things go. I thought I'd update the BIOS but for some reason it won't work, I follow the instructions but it seems to just hang at the part where I'd select the bios location :|

Sure its not your monitor? Maybe its not waking up for what ever reason.

If you think its your on board gfx causing a problem (unlikely) disable it in bios

Its not the monitor, it did this on my old TV...also it comes to life then says no signal.

Unfortunately there seems no way to disable the onboard video, I can make the PCI-E priority but that's as close as I can get :(

Thanks for the input :)
