For some reason one of the phone sockets in the front room just randomly stopped allowing the ADSL connection unless one of the phones was on a call (even though the phones are on a different phone socket).
Moved the modem from one socket to another and hey presto it seems to have sorted itself out.
I wonder if thats what caused all my connection instabilities in the first place.
I guess we shall see!
/edit strangely enough the phone socket which does work is piggybacked on to the original BT phone socket (the one thats not working) which is itself only a month old since fitting (by a BT engineer).
Right i've had a little play on my lunch break with the sockets and it would seem that the main BT socket hasn't been wired in properly
The connection seems to work if you unscrew the front and use the "test" socket but anything other than that and it just doesn't work.
One thing i have noticed though is that the connection generally craps out at about 11am give or take 30mins, was wondering if anyone would be able to explain that?
Here's some pictures of the 2 sockets in the front room:

^^From main plug... second wire is for the phone socket upstairs.
