Weird BT Yahoo ADSL speed problem

Been with the BT service for several years and I've never had a problem until a month ago.

I'm on the 8mbit unlimited plan (a fair usage policy does exist although it doesn't stipulate how much afaik). My router reckons its connected around 7.6mbit and I've easily had speeds of 750k a second in the past.

Twice in the past month, my download speeds have been crippled to around 2mbit, although upload remains unaffected (tested on Speedtest.net). The odd thing is that if I'm downloading anything at this time and maxing out this 2mbit restriction, I'm unable to do anything else other than wait for the download to finish - I can't view web pages, MSN/Steam friends can't connect.

This happened once before about 3 weeks ago and it suddenly happened again last night and it's annoying.

Does this sound like I'm being throttled and if so, how would I find out? I've not had an email or anything to suggest so.

Any ideas?

It could be throttling or something weird with your BRAS profile. Have you tried finding out whether or not your profile is limited to 2mbit when this happens?

If you're being throttled, it usually takes place between 4pm-1am.

For me its-

1am-4pm: 8meg
4pm-5pm: 3meg
5pm-6pm: 2meg
6pm-6.30pm: 1meg
6.30pm-11.30pm: 400kbps
11.30pm-12.59am: 3meg

This has been happening to me for the last 8 months, I'm on option 3 and I only download ~40GB/month...

Well the first time it happened, it occured almost dead on 6pm - it was noticeable.

The second time I didn't notice it.

I'm currently limited at 3.3mbits

My exchange is LLU and I can get Be* so I'm considering moving.
