Basically when I search for servers my ping from my PC to my router goes sky high and packets are lost.
Now, I had a similar issue when playing TF2 - but turning off TCP checksum/UDP checksum fixed it.
This time I'm out of ideas. It's as if too many connections are open or something like that.
Edit: Well that's great. It was patch 1.7 causing the issue. So now I have to use 1.6. The problem is my friends use 1.7 and I can't really ask them to downgrade
