I didn't know where else to go, really hope someone can help me with this, I aleady lost some assignment work TWICE last night :S:S

OK so basically I would be working on the computer doing nothing special. music running, a few other apps running, browsing the internet etc. then suddenly the app I am working would stop responding. The window doesn't fade out, it just stops responding in a way that you would expect it to suddenly come back to life. but it never does... Then, a few moments later I realise that nothing else responds either: no task manager comes up, the taskbar doesn't open up, nothing. However, the music is still running in the background. I am still clicking around the screen until the mouse also stops moving... then moments later the music suddenly turns into some sort of horrific robotic sound, then it just stays like this until I reset the machine. It's like my computer suffers a stroke or something, bit by bit it just dies away. :(

AFAIK, the crash has no symptoms or anything I do specifically to induce it. I've already reset the BIOS etc, and the PC is running at stock speed, but just 30 mins ago it happened again.

specs:

windows 7 64
qx6700
4gb ram
etc etc.

Any ideas on what to do would be greatly appreciated!

seasonic m12 700w

never had any issues with it before.

And strangely it hasn't happened when I've been doing more intensive stuff like gaming etc.

There was no need to reset the BIOS at this stage as that might induce further problems.

A good place to start looking is in the Event log. Look for an entry around the time of the crash and google any errors that you find. It might not give you the answer you need but it's a good place to start.

I tried looking at the event log a few days ago when it happened, I've got like 25 instances of the same problem, and it just shows the event under 'critical' - saying the system rebooted without cleanly shutting down first.

@ NeoVo, yeah I am currently running an AV scan using avast, usually avast warns of a virus because it has some realtime protection feature, it's done so before, could it be that a virus slipped passed that and is causing this?

I suspected a memory leak or something, and I do seem to be using almost half my memory with nothing much running, so maybe it is some sort of virus. avast has been scanning for ages and its only @ 4 percent though. :S

Also, I remember yesterday morning I left it on to do a bit of seeding and I came back in the afternoon to find it in its crashed state, so it's really confusing me as to what is causing it.

I really dont get it, i am using 65% of 4gb RAM with nothing but firefox but dunno what it is doing. There is no 1 program using the majority of the memory, and I only have around 30 or so processes visible yet it says ig ot 64...

Or X-650 isn't a bad idea for the system as well...as far as I know the fan will kick in if the temperature reached certain level at Seasonic PSU. Also it is more than 90% eff...

I had a similar problem on my work laptop a few weeks before, but mine all started whenever i used any windows media device! Basically my computer will act complete fine until i tried to listen to the radio, view you tube or use any other media device. Computer will be fine for approximately 10 minutes max then i will hear a beeping noise and the computer will stop responding
