Weird Displayport issues

I don't know if this is Graphics card, monitor or a motherboard issue.
Trying to keep this brief is difficult :D. I've just upgraded to a Rog strix x570-f gaming motherboard, with Ryzen 9 x3900. I carried my gtx 1070 over. Monitor is 1920x1080.
On 1st boot I hear the post beep, then a few seconds later I get a no vga detected code (I am using displayport). I tried the 1070 in another system (again displayport)and it worked perfectly. I tried a (known working) gtx 780 in the new system, and after the post, there was no error code, but also a blank screen. So I tried a different monitor with Displayport (same cable), and it worked. I then tried the original monitor using hdmi and it worked.
So I surmised (hoped) that in the 24 hours between using it on my old and new system, the displayport on the monitor had failed. So I ordered a new monitor. However, I have the same problem using displayport( 3 different cables). If I try booting with both DP and Hdmi cables attached, I get a post and no error beeps, but there is no picture, and the monitor goes straight to standby. If I try to turn it back on, it goes straight to standby again.
If the DP on the 1070 is faulty, why does it work on my son's monitor?. Has anyone seen or heard of anything like this, or have any ideas?. Cheers.
