Weird File Format

What is it supposed to be, a document, a picture? etc
I've used this before, when people have renamed file extensions without thinking and not remembered what they should have been.

It is supposed to be a document (more specifically a tenancy agreement)... Might try re-naming it and see what happens
actually yeah you're right, I've just double checked it.
Have you tried opening the file in openoffice?
No,
On my Mac (don't judge me
) it won't open with anything and on the work computer (XP) it won't open with anything (comes up with the weird text thing if opened with word/excell etc...)

use the 'file' command

As above, try the file command and see what it says. You can also try giving it a few different extensions yourself (doc, docx, pdf, odf etc if you expect it to be a tenancy agreement). You can also open the file in text editor to see what it actually looks like inside - a lot of the time you'll be able to work out what it's meant to be from that and then re-name it appropriately.

The software allows them to export to PDF so no idea why whoever did the file didn't do that.
