weird flicker on bran new monitor

As above but the flicker only occurs twice when booting into vista 64.
System spec: q6600, 4 gig ram, ds3r, 8800gt. Monitor HPw2408h. Any ideas? Thanks
Oh, forgot to mention I am using a dvi to hdmi connector.

Can you go in to more detail about the flicker? It could simply be active contrast.

It just flickers once or twice almost as if you knock a lead but it is so fast I cannot really describe it. I'll just do a reboot and have a good look and see if I can describe it a bit better

Here goes:The flicker (which is the screen going momentarily black for half a second, once or twice) only occurs after adding or logging on my password in vista. Prior to this and after it is fine. Wonder if it is a Vista anomaly or graphic card? I haven't checked to see if it does it in xp. .

Just checked, only happens in Vista not xp. Have bumped this to see if anybody has anything to add?
