Weird graphics glitch

Hi all,

My PC seems to have developed some weird kind of graphics glitch. I think it is the graphics card, a PowerColor 5870 I bought from overclockers last August.

It started last Saturday. The glitch looks like lots of small patches all over the screen, made up of 4x4 grey pixels, they seem to shimmer, if I change screen or open up word they seem to disappear only to reappear after a few seconds. They are also seen on the window start-up screen but not in the BIOS or during POST. Strangely if I play a game, MW2 for instance the glitch is present in the loading screens but not in the game.

I don't think it is tempreture related as real temp is reporting 52c on all cores. GPUZ reports 36C Tempreture as I type with 36C, 37C and 34C for GPU temps 1,2 and 3 respectively. After 15 mins of modern warfare 2 GPUZ reports temps of 54C tempreture. I don't think that is high.

I have windows patched up to date and I am on ATI 11.3 driver, I have tried uninstalling the driver but still the same problem. I also Rolled back to 11.2 but again, same problem.

If i start in safe mode, the artefacts are not there.

The graphics card has also never been overclocked, never felt the need to. The system is about two years old, again with parts from overclockers. Cables all seem to be in securely.

My specs

Win 7 premium
Q9300 CPU
5870 graphics card
4gb Corsair 8500 ram
Creative xfi titanium graphics card
Asus P5K Premium motherboard
Corsair 750W PSU

Here is a screen shot you can see the artefacts and also that it is effecting the words as well.

I am currently waiting for a cheapo £10 PCIE graphics card from EBay so I see if the problem goes away when I change cards.

Any help or opinions gratefully received.
Cheers
