Weird HDMI problem

I bought a new 12m HDMI cable but when it's connected from the AV receiver to the projector there's no signal.

However, i've connected the new cable from the receiver to a little female/female HDMI adaptor and then to the projector with the old cable and it works!

Does anybody have any idea what's going on as i'm stumped! I've had it connected with the adaptor with two smaller cables but the audio keeps dropping, so i suspected it was the adaptor, which was the whole reason for getting the longer cable, so it's pretty annoying.

A little update; from what i've gathered it could be HDCP encryption. The receiver and cable support it, but it doesn't look like the projector does.

I've tested it on my monitor (HDCP compliant) and it works.

Apparently HDMI splitters can remove the encryption which could be why it's working with the adaptor.

So if this is the case, I can't watch my paid for Amazon TV with my paid for equipment because of anti-piracy measures

Have you considered hdmi cable quality - at 12m cross-tallk cable quality may come into play - try reducing the resolution to 720/576 and see if that works, or (temporarily) purchase an alternative cable off of high street.
when small cable is attached maybe that counteracts problems from 12m cable, or connector on 12m cable is only mating well with small cable (use switch cleaner)
my long run 12m cable will not run at 2560x1440p

There is no signal on any resolutions. I have other (cheaper) cables which all work fine, the new cable works fine in every other scenario except when it's directly connected between the receiver and the projector.

I've just tried PC > new cable > projector which doesn't work
but PC > new cable > receiver > old cable projector which does work.

.. probably what you have already seen yourself .. that projector seems to be known to have some hdcp handshaking issues - what media had you been using it with ? presumably no option to return the projector (or ask optima for firmware/hardware fix ?)
... maybe you could find a more reliable splitter which can strip hdcp (without audio issues) - web seems to have lists of candidates

Yes this is what it looks like. I've got an Amazon fire box hooked up to the receiver which is the only thing plugged in at the mo.

I bought the projector a few years ago now, so returning it is a no go, I have updated the firmware which didn't make any difference. I contacted their support in the end, who were quite helpful, but didn't know what was going on. They said I could send the cable in and they would test it, but I think i may go down the better splitter route or try a different cable as i've spent hours trying to get to the bottom of it to no avail!
