Hi all,

I have a weird problem installing Windows XP Home OEM. en
It is on a Dell Dimension 9150, it has a sata 150gb HDD.

I had to format due to a virus, when i run the bios it recognises the HDD, i then put the xp install disk in, run it and it goes to the screen where you would normally select the drive to install. But the drive does not appear and it the blue screens.

I have an OEM version of vista from my laptop which i tried on the DELL, it worked fine, it recognised the HDD and installed first time.

So i tried the Xp Disk again, same thing, works up to select drive.

Any help on this would be gratefull

Thanks
G

mmm, could be a dodgy disk I guess, most likely it is loading the wrong SATA drivers, whats the chipset you might be able to download a new SATA driver then streamline it into the XP disc using nLite you might have more luck.

At first I thought it was going to be a RAM problem but seeing as Vista went on then it is probably one of the generic SATA drivers used by XP. If you have a floppy drive you could install the new driver during the Windows setup boot process by pressing F6 during boot up.

If you haven't tried formatting the drive (or just deleting all the partitions) using the Vista boot disk then putting the XP back in and trying again, give that a go too.
