Weird internet issue

I'm currently on OcUK (obviously), and am able to post this thread, my missus has been on skype all morning with no problems, and i've been managing to stream internet radio too.

However, I cannot load any other web pages, occasionally, google will load, but searches often fail and i get 'problem loading page' or , server not found. Images even on OcUK sometimes will load, or they won't.

Even on my mobile, i can't go on facebook and i have the same issues with google searches, so it's not down to my PC, it's a problem wider than one machine.

Any ideas?

Sounds like it could be DNS. Try a trace route to the sites you're having trouble with, that should show you where your connect gets to before banging out.

You can check if it's DNS without doing the above, use Facebook's IP address instead of the URL. The IP address I just pinged is 173.252.120.6 - doing this bypasses the need for a DNS server, if it works then I'd suspect the DNS and try entering Google's DNS server addresses in manually to your network connection settings.

Going to sound dumb, and obviously can't google, how do i do a traceroute lol.

I just tried facebook and that worked with 173.252.120.6

To do a traceroute open up a cmd console and type;
tracert [insert domain address here]
then hit enter

Does sound DNS orientated, check the comp for malware as well incase something is redirecting you.

Well we've been pinging bbc.co.uk all morning with no issues (ping bbc.co.uk -t) but we're still having drops internally so i think the problem is definitely internal.

I'll edit this post with a traceroute result.
