When PC is left and goes to sleep and the I come back to it and move mouse to wake both monitors look like below, they are both connected to MB, one HDMI and one DVI

the small square is the mouse pointer and you can still move it about but can't do anything else and have to power cycle, it works fine when I constant use

any ideas?

thanks

I would say that's a video RAM problem there Rotty, must likely on the mobo or system RAM. Since you've two monitors, it kind of rules out the possibility of faulty cables and monitors.. but screens like that i've seen are often VRAM related.

If you have access to a dedicated VGA card, then that can prove this theory beyond doubt..

not sure I have one but will look, I have seen vram corruption issues many times but it just seemed odd that it only happened when it goes to sleep

Thanks

My first thought is that the portion of ram assigned for video is being corrupted during the sleep process or Low Power Mode, possibly due to an infrequent supply of current to keep the session data active. It was my second thought too. If things are working during normal Power ON/OFF then this is very likely.

One thought while i was just typing that, try updating your motherboard firmware and drivers..
