Weird issue. Text sent from one mobile number, show as a different one on receivers phone

I have an android mobile, my mobile number ends with 788

My friend has an iPhone.

I text (not WhatsApp but actual text) her, and she receives the text from a number ending 243.

She text back to that number, and I get her reply.

I call the number, someone random answers.

Wtf is going on?

I've had this number about 20 years. I may have ported it one time about 18 years ago but can't remember it was so long ago. Been with EE since before EE was EE

Check the number in RCS

I had similar and it was an issue with a recent number porting

They gave me a new sim that had to be activated outside of the phone and now all good
 
Just to add what I mean, my proper number was in SIM manager but a different number was in RCS

The number in RCS was a temp number they had assigned to the SIM before the number porting happened but afterwards it didn't update properly

Check via my android or her iPhone?

As its sent by text, my phone shows RCS ticked in the corner. I assume she must use I message, so this would be RCS too?

Edit: I lie, for others it shows RCS but hers it says "texting" is the method used

How do it check the number in RCS?

Just to add ice had this number for about 20 years, and had it with ee before ee existed and still with them. I think I ported it right near the start of my time with the number, but that's going back about 18 years ago

go the messages on the android phone and in will be in the settings

that was how mine was, suppose could be her end but sounds like issue is your end

It shows my exact number, though under a setting titled SMSC it shows a different number, different to the other 2 mentioned in post 1

When you bought the android, was it a new contract, of which you then ported in your old number?
