Ok so bought a 2nd hand board/CPU (MSI A88XI-AC + AMD A8-7600)
Had a spare Corsair CX550M that I'd removed from a working machine when I upgraded the PSU.
Just testing the board caseless and the PSU fan and CPU heatsink fan would spin up but no BIOS screen coming up and eventually the PSU would switch off after about 1 minute.
Went through all the usual steps of testing with single RAM sticks in each slot, reseating/repasting CPU, Clear CMOS and disconnected the battery, connected a separate GFX card and still nothing. Thought the motherboard was dead but managed to test it with a Corsair TX850M in my NAS and it booted into the BIOS !!
So I thought the CX550M somehow had died since removing it. But I disconnected the TX850M and plugged in the 24 pin and 8 pin of the CX550M and the machine booted up so the PSU is working as well.
After doing some googling apparently some PSUs require a minimum amount of load to work properly so I plugged in a couple of fans, an SSD and HDD and a GFX card to the board. The fans spin up but still the same issue and it eventually shuts down.
So now I'm stuck for ideas. Wondering if anyone has had the same issue and worked out a way to fix it ?
