I have a laptop and just recently it shut itself down twice and now when I boot it up the screen is all corrupt and hazy with odd colours. As seen in the image below:

The whole screen is messed up and I can only select 640x480 and 800x600 although nothing changes, it's Vista Ultimate and in the display settings section, it won't show the graphics adaptor.

If I connect an external monitor to it via vga, the whole screen displays as interlaced multicoloured blocks. in the lowest res.

Any ideas?

Probably a integrated gpu, you would need a new motherboard or a new laptop.

My Dell gpu went last year, only 3 months old, Dell had to change the board.

You could call up Dell and see if they can fix it, or just save the money and buy a new laptop, which would probably be the better move.

If it has a separate gpu on the motherboard that could be replaced for not too much 2nd hand or you might get lucky a find a 2nd hand motherboard at auction cheap. Failing that sell it for spares
