Hi all,

Got a weird problem with the MP

Basically I turned it on this morning and it wouldn't post. Got the startup noise but nothing on the screen.

After some fanning around, its now posting, it boots into osx but all you get is a completely black screen, the monitor has a signal, but thats all it is receiving, just blackness.

So I've been to the apple store, bought a new gfx card, same thing.

So I thought maybe its software related, put an OSX disc in, booted off that, same thing. So now its sitting on the osx lion install splash screen but i can't see it :(

Any ideas folks?

its a 2007 MP btw.

Oh, and to add to it - From the macbook I can browse the hard drives but its not giving me the option to screen share like it normally does, dunno if that helps at all?

Is it the famous ATI card problem ? Apple has a recall on these, do a bit of googling on the subject.

Otherwise, take it appart, get the vacuum cleaner out and give it a complete cleanup. It's quite hot at the moment and it could trigger a heat related shutdown. A friend of mine had his mac pro randomly shutdown on him because it was too dirty and the airflow was no longer enough.

I've had to go out now but ive got an update whilst in transit.

Used bootcamp and got into windows fine. So the hardware is fine and looks like a software issue.

Will investigate more when I get in tonight.

Apparently an update was released over the weekend and caused corruption to a few Lion installations?
