weird monitor issues

Hello all.

My girlfriends monitor has started acting strange as of late. I'm not sure if it's a pc hardware issue or not as it boots perfectly fine, but the monitor just stays at 'no signal'. It would only work if I booted the pc first (leaving the monitor off), let it boot to the windows log in screen, then turn on the monitor. I thought it was a possible driver issue, so I did a format and reinstalled Windows 7. Ever since, the monitor won't work at all, not even using the temporary solution above. It gets weirder. It works using the temporary solution when I boot a different hdd that has Windows 8 on it. I'm ruling out hardware as it works fine with a different monitor (used this to do what I've mentioned above). But I can't say for certain that it's the monitor either. I'm going to take the monitor home with me at some point soon and try it on my system to run further diagnostics. If anyone has any advice or experience from a similar situation, I'd really appreciate it if you shared the info.

System specs
Intel i5 quad core (can't remember model)
Z77a-g43 mobo
8gb (2x4gb) 1600 g-skill ripjaw
HD6950 2gb gddr5
550w oz 80+ bronze psu

Things I've done!
Reset bios to factory settings
Taken pc apart and put back together

Things I can't do!
Can't flash or update bios as the monitor that does work doesn't display the bios screen fully, so I can't navigate to the flash/update section. Uief (spelling?) Bios type.
Can't try anything other than hdmi as I don't have a dvi cable until I take the monitor home for further diagnostics. This also prevents me trying the monitor using the onboard gpu.

P.S.
I've searched Google high and low for possible answers, but I can't find anything with the exact same situation. People have reported similar issues but they aren't the exact same. I've tried their solutions anyway, but to no avail. I'll update once I've ran the monitor on my rig, but would still really appreciate any info or advice on the matter

Quick update, the monitor boots up perfectly fine with my girlfriend's laptop in it. So now I'm inclined to think it's either the bios or the psu. Still, any advice with this would be appreciated.

Have you tried plugging the PC into a TV or similar? That would be 1 way to test.
Are you sure the BIOS isn't set to start up with internal GFX card?

Are you 100% plugged into the gfx card not the onboard?
**Does onboard work?

Both monitors I tried are tv's hers is 24" and the one that worked was 20". Fot some reason it won't display the bios fully, it crops it down and makes everything mix together. I can't try the onboard as she only has a hdmi cable (until I take the monitor home to test it with my pc) and her motherboard doesn't have a hdmi socket, only dvi and vga :(

I've tried cycling the input settings. No changes I'm afraid. I'm gonna take it home today and flash/update the bios. Hopefully, this will resolve any issues :) will keep you updated. Thanks for the responses

Well i've finally found the issue, just not sure what causes it. When the monitor is connected through HDMI, the pc powers up, fans light up and spin, but wont actually boot. I've tried 2 different cables and gotten the same result.. Tried the exact same thing with 2 different monitors and it boots up perfectly fine.. It seems the HDMI socket on her monitor is prevening her pc from powering up correctly. The monitor and pc will boot correctly through a DVI - VGA cable however, so it looks like it's time for her to invest in a new monitor. I just can't figure out what's causing it to not boot through the HDMI on that particular monitor. I've updated the bios, and configured it correctly, so maybe its down to bad/dying capacitors? Just a stab in the dark really.

Just for reference, these are the lists of monitors:-
Her Monitor = Sharp LC-24LE250k-HW (tv/monitor)
My Monitor = LG 24MS5V3 (smart tv)
My 2nd Monitor = Generic crappy 19" HD piece of turd (tv/monitor)
