Weird networking issues

We have a Virgin Media Hub 3.0 and a 1 Gb 4-port switch.

Suddenly about 6pm tonight it seems the router works fine by wifi but none of the ethernet-connected devices (including devices connected to the switch which is attached directly to the router).

Is this a thing? How could a router spontaneously break on a Sunday evening? And is it possible to break in such a way? That all routing and DHCP works fine. Yet the only thing that doesn't is the wired ports?
 
Weird. They normally fail on Saturday evenings :D
Could it be an issue with the ethernet cable? Or try plugging a device directly into the router to see if the issue is the switch?
 
Switch lights were flashing as expected. Rebooted both switch and Virgin Hub 3.0.

Called Virgin and ordered a new Hub 3.0. Day before it arrived magically started working again.
