Hi there,

Reformatted windows and everything was running fine...

Suddenly out of nowhere I got a "out of range" box appear on my monitor so I pressed the reset button on pc and I now get a windows resume loader screen appear that gives me 2 options:

"continue with system resume" or "delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu

I select the first one "continue with system resume" and the monitor after a few seconds says "no signal"

So I tried booting in safe mode and I get into windows fine...

How do I fix this? where do I start?

Both mouse and keyboard are PS/2 types they were/are working fine..

Any ideas whats caused this and how to fix it?

Thanks in advance for any responses I receive

P.S. I did manage to get into windows once by luck since this happened but 3 - 4 mins in , I got the out of range message appear with a black background

Try loading up safe mode and checking your display settings.

Reset them to known working spec/resolution and check the 'screen refresh rate' too.

Apply and exit..

Try a normal boot.

If that doesn't work try a differnet gfx card if you have one to hand.

thanks for your response...

This worked a treat, took a few attempts as I had to boot in vga enabled mode and then get the right settings otherwise it would throw up the "out of range" error again

So as it was all working fine, I ran windows update...

Now the machine just keeps restarting after the windows logo appear..

I am thinking maybe the RAM? or the windows updated screwed something up..

Any ideas where to begin?

Thanks

When you did Windows update did you include 'optional updates'?

It's not uncommon for windows optional updates to screw up a system - but it is salvageable.

Try loading in to safe mode and running 'system restore'

If you're unable to get into safe mode boot from the windows disc and run the system repair/system restore.

thanks for your continued help...

perhaps a fresh install will sort it out?

If it was working fine after you applied the 'display setting fix' in safe mode - then a fresh win 7 install would probably sort your new problems out since the windows updates.

But i would only do this if you couldn't get 'system restore' or the repair disc option to work.

hi there,

I did a fresh install and problem persisted intermitently with Win 7

I then saw the vista sticker on side of machine, so reinstalled win vista and voila it worked a treat

strange but true

thanks for all your help its now sorted
