Weird PC Problem *EDIT*

hey all,

I'm not sure where exactly to post this thread as it's related to both my hardware and software - probably

I went on a long holiday and one day my parents called up and told me my pc doesnt work anymore. Only returned today and found out that my pc is in a state that refuses to boot up and wont even allow me to format.

the system I've got is:
DFI Lan Party Mobo,
AMD Opteron 120 CPU,
Geil 1GB ram and
2 Seagate Sata Drive (both 160GB)

the first harddisk has 2 partitons on it, with 1 contains system files and the other contains all my game files. Then the 2nd harddisk have all my songs, storage, files etc on it.

The pc would froze at loading screen (windows logo) on my first boot, then if I restart, it will take me to the warning screen saying "pc did not start up properly please select boot option" - with different boot options. However, no matter which choice I made, it will also restart itself. After 2nd restart, it'll ask me to insert windows setup disc and carry out a repair then new problem comes:

I tried to format/repair the system file however, once the setup disc is inserted, the setup program gives me a warning telling me that i386 folder or certain system folder is somehow corrupted and unable to continue with the windows setup.

Now I am on my other pc trying to save some files. The storage disc cannot then be recongized, as if I plug the harddisk in, the windows would slow down greatly and freeze up every 5 seconds.

I don't think my parents really did much to my system apart from browsing some news sites and play solitaire game when I was away, so I have no idea what's going on with my system. Never really encountered any similar problem like this before, so any help would be greatly appreciated :D

I know this might be a bit of noob question, does fdisk work with SATA drives?

I dont have any advice, just wondering if u got fdisk to work on your sata drive. Any luck?

Also, I'd like to know, does Ghost work with Sata drives as easily as it works with pata drives? Has any1 here tried ghost on a sata?

I've successfully used 'ghosting programs' using minipe for sata hdd's ;)

Sounds like it may be a boot sector error.I know there is a command in bios to fix this but can't remember what it is.SOmeone outthere should know what i am refferring to and help you.Something like chkdsk/r or something

it's pretty evil stuff. I'll try chkdisk first however, is there any way to scan my harddisk for virus in dos mode?
