Hey all,

Over the last few days my PC has been acting a bit odd when shutting down, Windows shuts down just fine but the case still has power... The fans and lights on them still spin.

I have to force the machine off by holding down the power button or flipping the switch on the PSU.

My suspicions are that it might be the PSU on the way out but any ideas would be welcome!

Have you left it for any period of time to see if it shuts off? upgraded bios recently or fiddled with it? could be a power setting or cooling setting there perhaps?

Nothing has changed in the system for the best part of a year, apart from one thing. I added an extra SSD that I got for Christmas.

I have left for a while to see what happened but it seemed liked ages with no effect so I powered it down manually, will try and keep it going longer next time it happens.

maybe because of the accumulation of dust?

When I put in the new SSD it gave me the chance to give the whole machine a nice clean with compressed air so its cleaner than it has been for months... maybe it liked the dust :)

I think I have found part of the cause, it seems to only happen when shutting down the machine after the HDD's have gone to sleep (set t0 20mins atm it seems). If done when the machine is all awake its fine.

Not sure how to solve that though, other than telling them never to go to sleep?
