For the last couple of days my PC has been turning itself off when gaming and I'm at a loss the explain what it is.

1st the spec:

CPU - i7 875k (S1156) @ 4ghz + Corsair H50
Mobo - MSI P55-GD80
RAM - 8gb Samsung Green 1600 mhz @ 2000mhz
HDD - 2x OCZ 120gb SSD, 2x 500gb WD Sata Raid 0.
GPU - 2x Asus Direct CU HD5850 1gb Crossfire
PSU - OCZ Fatality 900W Modular

Plus all the usual connected USB devices inc a 3tb USB HDD.

Now the issue is that when gaming the computer just immediately and randomly turns off, exactly like there has been a power cut. The things I have done to try and isolate the problem are:

1: Put the machine back to stock (no OC) settings. No effect
2: Tried each GPU on its own. No effect
3: Tried each GPU in a different PCI-e slot. No effect
4: Tried each stick of ram on its own. No effect
5: Unplugged all possible devices that the pc doesn't need. No effect.
6: Tried a low power HD4670 GPU. No effect.

Now I personally suspect the PSU has become faulty and am about to pull the trigger on a new one, but I've no idea how to test it before I do. ANy ideas?

What is the cpu temp whilst gaming and idle?

All screws tight on the motherboard and nothing coursing a short, try running external to the case.

Temps hit around 65c - 70c under full load but while gaming the temps are only around 55c.

One thing I forgot to mention is that I've yesterday replaced all the TIM on the CPU and both GPU's which again had no effect apart from dropping the GPU temp by about 10c.

It was then I tried the 4670 and still got the power shut off problem.

Check this PSU on another rig, it will be first thing that OCZ guys do during RMA.

Alternatively, You might buy PSU tester and see if any dropdowns occur there.

But to do and try to test external to the case or have a go checking all the screws ect are ok.

Don't have another rig unfortunately and everyone else I know has Laptops...:(
Also the PSU won't be RMA'd as I bought it in 2008 so its well out of warranty.

Will try that shortly, after Liverpool beat Man Utd.

Is there anyway the motherboard could be causing it?

If it's just suddenly turning off for no reason when under load I would say the PSU is faulty.

Try all the above and then grab a new PSU and try it. If it still does the same you can always DSR the PSU and will only be out of pocket the return costs.

what amount of qpi/vtt? or cpu memory controller voltage?

no bsod at all?

No bsod what so ever just an immediate power off, exactly as if the power has been cut and I've backed out the overclock and still get the same result.

CPU-z below. It's been sat at that for the last 3 years without a single crash so I presume everything has been fine with the settings I applied.

Good idea, I think thats what I may just do.

If you bought the psu in 2008 then it has done its job and you've had your money's worth out of it so i would buy a new psu anyway. Only thing left after that is mains power supply ie loose neutral wire in a socket or plugtop which will heat up and make and break the circuit randomly.

For anyone interested or experiencing any similar issues, I installed a brand new Corsair CX750M this morning and all is well again, yay!
