I have just taken over a nice little P4 / 512Mb rig from my sister as she has gone to Core 2 Duo. I've gone backwards from an Athlon 64 but that's another story.
Anyroad, I've installed XP and notice that if I do a Shutdown > Restart, the computer won't boot. It completes POST but seems to get stuck when it tries to load the NTLDR or whatever it is in XP.
It works fine when I switch it on from cold. It also doesn't work when I Shutdown and then switch it back on within a few seconds. Weird.
It's a P4 1.7GHz, with a Radeon 7000 AGP (yes! really!), 512Mb Rambus memory, Asus P4T-E mobo and 2 brand new WD 80Gb hard disks.
Any suggestions as to what's going wrong?
