Hi all

I have a really weird problem on a few computers here and wondered if anyone had an answer or idea on how to solve the following problem:

I have Windows XP PC's that have a problem now and again running the login.bat file - everyone has permissions and when it fails they can just go to \\server\NETLOGON\login.bat and it works fine.

I have tried putting a link to it in startup and again it works intermittently.

Any ideas anyone? It's driving me up the wall!

is the \\server machine really a server? or is it xp/2k, they have a 10 or 12 machine limit..

server os's are unlimited

lol, ok

used as a good way of 'saving money'. (and creating problems!)

do some of the users have laptops and use sleep mode? -when they go home and use their pc, they'll set it to sleep, then in the office 'turn on' the laptop again, and get errors because the logon script hasn't worked..

Sorry for the slow reply...

Script maps 4 network drives... as I said running the script manually works fine - so that rules out permissions...

I think I may have gotten to the bottom of it - firstly they're all Windows XP and PC based (no laptops) however the machine I was working on would pick up the script 1 out of 3 times.. when I checked it, it didn't have any Service Packs on there - so I chucked on SP2 and restarted it three times and that seemed to work - going to test it with the rest and see if this is indeed the problem...

If anyone else has other ideas I'm willing to try them as well...

If the problem is the login script is not mapping the network drives when your users logon to XP, then you need to disable XP's Fast Logon Optimization feature.

Details here ...

This had me stumped for ages so I feel your pain.
