Weird problem...need help!!!

I have an Asus K8N-e Deluxe socket 754 with an AMD64 3000+, i had 1x512mb DDR400 and just bought another one the same to give me 2x512mb DDR400.
The problem is, with the 2 sticks in it only runs DDR333

, if i put the sticks in seperately they both run at DDR400 but together they go back to 333, ive tried them in different slots, tried lots of different settings in the bios, even tried different bios's with no luck.
Any ideas what else i can do to get these both running at DDR400?

Have you tried manually setting it to DDR400 in the BIOS?

The memory controller on your CPU should be able to run two sticks of ram at DDR400 - it should only drop to DDR333 when all three slots are used

Yes i have it set to 400 manually, but still goes to 333.
Also the sticks are of the same brand and also same chip numbers etc so i they are not mismatched.
Is there something im overlooking?

I think that the problem is that it's an odd one so it's unlikely that someone else has had any experience with it or know how to solve it

I don't wish to be pedantic but the mods here are pretty hot on swear words so I'd fully star it out before they see it

Sorry that I didn't reply sooner - I was trying to think of a reason as to why this might be the case.

Are one of the two sticks double sided and one single sided? This might cause possible compatibility problems which might cause your memory speed to drop to DDR333. You did mention that they're the same brand though which should avoid any problems like this

All of the standard suggestions like swapping the sticks around, changing the speed manually, updating the BIOS, etc you've tried

Do you know anyone else with a Socket 754 A64 system to try theirs?

Otherwise, perhaps try selling the sticks and buying a matched pair as a last resort

Again thx for replying, i have sorted the problem now thx to a different forum.
It turns out that there are issues with this board that when you put 2 sticks of ram it defaults back to 333, the only bios's that actually work and sorted my problem are v1006 and 1009 , the newest bios is 1012.007 and it doesnt work so i went back to an older bios and my problem is solved.
